Artist Profile
Critically acclaimed as one of the most talented electronic keyboard players in the world, Richard Burmer is best described as a storyteller of extraordinary fluency, using music as his language. He evokes intriguing images and emotions through his lush compositions while taking the listener on a journey to exotic and nostalgic places. As a musical explorer of the '90's, his purpose is to describe a picture and then let the listener take off on their own.
Raised in Owosso, Michigan, Richard Burmer became fascinated as a child with the sounds of music when he began tinkering with the family piano. In 1971, his older brother built homemade synthesizer circuits which, along with an old two-track recorder, provided the environment for Richard to explore the electronic medium. Two years later, he purchased his first commercially built synthesizer and has since become one of the finest composers to emerge from the electronic/acoustic musical realm.
His travels around the globe has added to his musical repertoire with influences from Turkey, Greece, Ireland and numerous others. Many of the unusual instruments he has collected over the years have found their way into his evocative recordings. His latest release, Treasure of the Saints, includes a poetry reading by Dylan Thomas; one of the only known recordings of Thomas' work set to music.
