Artist Profile
Dr. Yaounde Olu, a native Chicagoan, is a musician, composer and teacher who has been writing music and performing for more than forty years. She is a percussionist (congas, djembe drums, djun djuns, African timbales, temple blocks, etc.), alto clarinetist and plays keyboard synthesizers. She has performed in various bands including, but not limited to, Cliff Dwellers, Celebration Drummers, SunWimmin, Rhythm Women, Wild Women Rhythms, Uno, Ye Ye and Rhythm Divas. She is the instructor/facilitator for the Oak Part Area Women's Drum Circle and has performed as a soloist with Ubaka Hill's Drumsong Orchestra. Percussis is her fifth self-produced CD.
