Description
Live At Europapark Rust 2002
Charly Antolini can superimpose such complex rhythms that it's sometimes hard to believe that you are only listening to one drummer. Nevertheless, a swinging rhythm is an absolute must for him, and his guiding principle is, as he says himself, "to express something with every beat". With the international line-up of his Charly Antolini's International Jazz Power project at the 2002 Hot Jazz Festival, he triumphantly proved once again that he is one of the best drummers in the world.
Charly Antolini's International Jazz Power - where various international musicians play together. In jazz circles, Charly Antolini is highly respected for this by critics and countless fans. Many of those fans turned up to the Hot Jazz Festival on 25th May 2002 for "their" Charly's 65th birthday. Happy Birthday filled the hall in Rust, Baden, when Charly Antolini, who was visibly moved, came on stage. Charly Antolini sat down behind his drums and delivered a brilliant performance somewhere between evergreen hardbob and modern swing. He was supported wonderfully by saxophonist Steve Hooks, trombonist Andrej Lebanov, pianist David Gazarov and bassist Rocky Knauer. The peak of the concert was a long, but never longwinded, drum solo, during which Charly Antolini gave everything and the crowd cheered.
