The author Melody J. Smith, qualified in piano music in Sri Lanka. She is currently a teacher at New Zealand Modern School of Music. In her career of teaching music which spans well over 25 years, she has the experience of teaching pupils of many cultures. Her expertise in teaching piano/ keyboard lies mainly with children, although, it extends to adults as well. Her inspiration for writing this book is to assist children in their learning of music at home. Just like parents and guardians take an active role with school homework, this book will aid a child at home, to get a better understanding of the basic principles of reading music in order to enjoy a long and fulfilling music education.
